Niles North Football Coach Mark Egofske Resigns

The only coach to lead the Vikings to back-to-back IHSA playoff appearances has stepped down due to health issues.

Despite leading the Vikings to two playoff berths in as many seasons after a 22-year absence from the postseason, Niles North head coach Mark Egofske has resigned.

Reasons for Egofske’s resignation appear to be health-related, as he has a hip replacement surgery planned for January, according to the Skokie Review.

The other reason was to be able to watch his daughter, Julienne Egofske, during her final season of high school softball.

The Vikings are coming off a 7-5 season in which they advanced to the IHSA Class 7A quarterfinals where they were eliminated by Bradley-Bourbonnais. It had been the school’s first ever appearance in the state quarterfinals.
