Niles North Football Seeks Back-to-Back Playoff Berths for First Time in School History

The Vikings will rely on the return of key starters in order to make that happen.

The Niles North Vikings football team is seeking to qualify for the postseason in two consecutive years for the first time in school history.

The Vikings return key starters such as QB Markhus Taylor, RB Barrington Wade and WR Jordan LaBelle from last year’s team that finished 5-4 in the regular season and earned the school’s first playoff berth since 1992.

The 2014 berth was short lived, however, as the Vikings were no match for top seeded Cary-Grove in Round 1, falling 52-14.

“Wade, an Iowa commit, will start at running back and outside linebacker this season. He’ll be joined on offense by LaBelle and senior Craig “Dutch” Dawkins, who ran for 574 yards and eight touchdowns a year ago despite missing four games after fracturing the fibula in his left leg,” according to a Skokie Review season preview.

The Vikings kick things off on the road on Friday, August 28 at Shepard. Their home opener is Friday, September 4 against Lake Forest High School.
