Niles West Debate Has 4th Ranked Team in Country

The recent high school debate coaches poll named a Niles West team as the 4th in the country.

Niles West Debate Team members Nasim Salehitezangi, Nathan Glancy and Rida Sheikh have earned the designation of National Speech & Debate Association Academic All-Americans. Glancy and Sheikh are the co-captains of the Niles West Debate Team and Salehitezangi is the Varsity Secretary for the 17 - 18 school year. The National Speech and Debate Association awards Academic All-American status to debaters who have:

· Earned the degree of Superior Distinction (750 points)

· Earned an unweighted GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent) or 3.5 with an ACT score of 27 or higher

· Received an ACT score of 27 or higher, or SAT combined score of 2000 or higher

· Completed at least 5 semesters of high school

· Demonstrated outstanding character and leadership

Head Coach Eric Oddo said, “I'm incredibly proud of them. They have not only represented Niles West Debate well in the debate community, but also in Niles West classrooms. Given that students miss school frequently for debate tournaments, all these students act as role models to other debaters by showing them what comes first: academics.”

Additionally, in the most recent high school debate coaches poll from December 15, Nathan Glancy and Nasim Salehitezangi were ranked 4th in the country!
