Christ George Pappageorge, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2019. He was a 50-year resident of Glenview, IL and longtime resident of Singer Island, Florida. Loving husband of Gloria Pappageorge, with a cherished marriage of over 67 years. Beloved father to Faye Swift, George (Louise) Pappageorge, Tony (Yvonne) Pappageorge, Paul Pappageorge, and Timothy (Samantha) Pappageorge. Treasured grandfather as “Papou” to Matthew (Cayla), Christina Swift (Andy), Alexandra (Ryan) Burke, Chris Pappageorge, Jaclyn (Christian) Schwarzhans, Nicholas Pappageorge, Julia Pappageorge, Kathryn Pappageorge, Christopher Pappageorge, and Zechariah Pappageorge. Great grandfather (Papou) to Gabriella Swift, Ashton Swift, Colin Burke, Grayson Burke, Penelope Burke. Dear brother of the late Gus Pappageorge, Elias (Joy) Pappageorge, and fond sister-in-law Dorothy Kalas.

He is preceded in death by his son and namesake, Chris Pappageorge. Born in Evanston, IL on November 20, 1928, Christ George Pappageorge was the son of George and Sophia Pappageorge. As a small boy, he and his family returned back to Athens, Greece where he was raised and graduated high school. Chris moved to the US permanently in 1950, and married Gloria in 1951. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology. Chris took pride in joining and leading a family business, Pekin Cleaners (established in 1919) that later expanded as Pekin Uniform Rental, headquartered on Chicago’s south side neighborhood in Bronzeville.
He was dedicated to his family and actively served in his faith community as the President of the council at Sts. Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Glenview, IL. He enjoyed the game of golf and especially the longstanding fellowship of his group, the Sweetspots. Chris was a man with many interests from a quiet game of tavli to world travels, he was engaged and always curious.
A kind and compassionate man, he connected hearts and minds by making time for all with his heartfelt presence and thoughtful commemoration of every occasion big and small. Above all, he valued his family and his faith, and will be greatly missed by all.
