Catherine A. Marquette (Kay), age 95, of Glenview, passed away on June 7th, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Delwyn Marquette. Loving mother of Kathleen (Joe) Bredemann, Pamela (Steve) Wicks, Michael (Lori) Marquette, Dawn (Tim Bicio) Marquette, and the late Meg Marquette. Adoring grandmother to Katie (Brian) Funk, Julie (John) Messner, Joe (Allison) Bredemann, Lisa (Casey) Gray, Amy (Matt) Shane, Brad (Jessica) Wicks, Rebecca Wicks, David Wicks, Ryan (Kristen) Marquette, Andy Marquette, Barbie Marquette, Alec (Cenia) Marquette, Kristin (Wayne) Detro and proud great grandmother to Emmet and Della Messner, Clare Theiss, Grace and Joseph Bredemann, Charlotte and Lucy Funk, Layla and Jackson Wicks, Jack Marquette. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Desta (Keleher) Doyle. Dear sister to Desta (the late Daniel Ahern), Rosemary (the late Bill Dunker), the late Sr. Joan Doyle, the late Lawrence Doyle, the late James Doyle, the late Joseph Doyle, the late Raymond Doyle, and the late Noreen (the late Tom) Benton. She was a fond aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Catherine was born and raised on the north side of Chicago in St. Tarcissus parish.
At 18, she was voted Irish Queen of Chicago’s Harp and Shamrock club and won a trip to Ireland where she represented Chicago in Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.
After attending De Paul University, she became a flight attendant for American Airlines. Soon after, she met and married Delwyn. She was a devoted and lifelong member of the Kiwi Club, a social and charitable / organization for former and current American Airlines flight attendants.
She always looked forward to attending Kiwi conventions and would come back with stories and pictures of talent night.
After she took time off to raise her family, she went back to work part time with American Airlines through various office assignments at O’Hare airport, one of which was working in the pilots’ office. Over the next 20 years, she worked in various customer service capacities. Until age 92, she worked part time at the Bredemann dealerships where she was loved by everyone as Grandma Kay.
An avid follower of the stock market, she loved to read the Wall Street journal and gave her family many stock tips. She was part of the Doyle Dow Makers investment club with her sisters, nieces, and nephews.
Throughout her life, she possessed a positive outlook along with a caring and sweet nature. Family was extremely important to her and she often remarked how lucky she was to have such a wonderful family.Read more via Donnellan Family Funeral Services »
