NU Prof Sues Former Student Over Attempted Sex Assault Claims

A lawsuit filed by a Northwestern University philosophy claims a student's accusations over a 2012 incident are false.

A Northwestern University professor is suing a former student who accused the instructor of trying to sexually assault her on the grounds that her accusations are false and have hurt his career, according to a Chicago Sun-Times report.

The lawsuit, which was filed Tuesday in Cook County Circuit Court by philosophy professor Peter Ludlow, is part of the continuing litigation stemming from allegations surrounding an encounter between Ludlow and the former student in February of 2012, the report stated. The two attended an art show together, and the student, who was 19 at the time, claims Ludlow gave her alcohol, kissed her and touched her inappropriately, the report added.

Ludlow, who says he can prove the accusations are false, claims the student propositioned him, but he refused her advances, the report stated. He also claims the student made false statements about the incident during TV interviews with local affiliates, the report stated.

Ludlow is seeking more than $120,000 in damages, and his suit claims defamation, false light invasion of privacy, intentional interference with employment contract and intentional interference with prospective employment, the report stated.
