Obituary: George Neuhaus, Jr., 91

George W. Neuhaus, Jr., of Skokie, passed away on July 31, at the age of 91, at home surrounded by family. Born Feb. 18, 1927 in Evanston to George Neuhaus, Sr. and Bertha Behrendt Neuhaus, George was and forever will be the beloved husband of Jane A. Neuhaus nee Rosinski, the loving father of Cynthia (Joseph) Cook, Charles (Ruthanne) Neuhaus, George, III (Mary) Neuhaus and the late Caryn Neuhaus, the proud grandfather of Christine (Jacob) Rhode, Melanie (Jamie) Vasquez, Kevin (Paige) Neuhaus, Catherine “Katie” Neuhaus, Megan Neuhaus, Michael Neuhaus, Sarah Jane Neuhaus, George W. Neuhaus, IV, Madeline (Elvis) Schmidt, and Jessica Neuhaus, and great grandfather of Jackson and Emma Rhode.

After enlisting in the Navy in January 1945 to serve as a Fireman, First Class, George was honorably discharged in August 1946, before becoming a member of the Evanston Fire Department, where he retired Captain after 28 years.

In 1964, George purchased Hanson Roofing which has since grown into the area’s premier roofing contractor.

There will be a visitation, Friday, Aug. 3 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., followed by a funeral service, Saturday, Aug. 4 from 10 a.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Boulevard in Skokie. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, IL.
