Produce World Expects to Hire 50 at New Store
Village official calls likely late December opening 'positive' for Skokie during hard times.
The expanded only needed a handful of new employees because it involved simply moving over the existing staff from the smaller store three blocks away.
But the situation at will be far different--bringing positive news come the winter holiday season for job seekers in Skokie and the surrounding area. The outlet is scheduled to open by late December across from the Jewel store on Skokie Boulevard.
Owner Steve Pavlopoulos said he must staff his third store virtually from scratch. He plans to add as many as 50 jobs.

Pavlopoulos said prospective employees should visit the store site in the 9400 block of Skokie Boulevard and fill out an application when the opening date, yet to be announced, neared. He likely will be present to accept some applications in person.
“It makes you feel good," the businessman said. "You provide for families out there and people rely on your success to get a paycheck and pay their bills.”

The arrival of a significant new employer has brightened the outlook at Village Hall, as Skokie officials welcome the pending store opening and the jobs it will create.
“I am pleased that the new Produce World opening will result in additional job opportunities in Skokie,” said Village Mayor George Van Dusen.
“Produce World is among several new businesses and restaurants that have recently opened or about to open in the community, which is remarkable in the current difficult economy," Van Dusen said.
"Any amount of jobs growth, and overall economic growth, is positive for the community,” he added.
