Serial Shoplifter Held Without Bail As Woman Suffers Brain Bleed
Prosecutors said the teen shoved a 69-year-old woman while fleeing a Skokie shop, causing a brain bleed and requiring stitches and surgery.

SKOKIE, IL — A judge ordered a Harvey teen accused of seriously injuring a senior citizen while shoplifting from a Skokie beauty store held without bond Friday.
Devonte Warrior, 19, of the 100 block of West 156th Street, was charged with aggravated battery to a senior and robbery in connection with a March 7 incident at the Ulta Beauty at 9635 Skokie Blvd, according to court records. Warrior, who prosecutors said has eight previous retail theft convictions, was arrested two days later in Chicago.
Prosecutors said Warrior entered the Skokie beauty shop shortly after 4:30 p.m."with at least five other women," quickly picked up several items and began to run out of the store. On the way out, the teen pushed a 69-year-old woman who was a customer at the store, prosecutors said. She fell to the ground, hit her head and immediately began bleeding.

Prosecutors said the senior would suffer a brain bleed, a cut that needed 10 stitches and nine staples and two broken fingers from the incident. She also required surgery to a hand.
An Ulta employee who tried to stop Warrior but was pushed into the security detectors, according to prosecutors, who said the incident was captured on video. Skokie police said no one else is in custody in connection with the incident.

The teen is also facing a felony charge of aggravated battery to a police officer in connection with a March 9 incident at Saks Fifth Avenue, 700 N. Michigan Ave. in Chicago. Chicago police reported Warrior had been taken into custody and was being charged with criminal trespassing after staff said they had been banned from the premises.
While being searched, police said Warrior rammed an officer with a shoulder, causing her to fall and injure an elbow and knee. Following the arrest, Chicago police learned of an investigative alert from Skokie police.
