Services Set For Charles Greenstein, Cub Fan Who Had Amazing Life

Former village of Lincolnwood treasurer Charles Greenstein has died after a life filled with unique and significant accomplishments.

LINCOLNWOOD, IL — Life happens to some people and to others, well they happened to life. Charles Greenstein is among those who fit into the latter category.

It's hard to describe in a fixed amount of words who Greenstein, who died at age 91 earlier this week, was. That's because he wore an incredible number of hats during his time on this planet and each one of those hats has several interesting tales to go with it.

Greenstein was the former longtime treasurer for the village of Lincolnwood. He took up three different professions — lawyer, banker, accountant — and excelled at each.

A treasured friend to many, his devotion to the Chicago Cubs went so deep that he saw the team play in two World Series, both the 1938 and 2016 fall classics, in person. He missed the 1945 World Series as he was honorably serving the United States overseas.

Greenstein was also the head bowling coach at Loyola University for decades. His own bowling career was highlighted by a night in 1948 when he bowled a 300 game at a now demolished bowling alley in Wrigleyville.
