Skokie Among Places with Most Expensive Auto Insurance

Not many Illinois residents may more in car insurance than those from Skokie.

SKOKIE, IL - Skokie’s average annual car insurance rate comes to $1,424. That number trails only Chicago ($1,733), Cicero ($1,536) and Berwyn ($1,432) as the most expensive places to live when it comes to car insurance. Oak Park rounded out the top five ($1,352).

Financial website ValuePenguin crunched those numbers and found Skokie’s average is about 27 percent more than the state’s annual average cost. That’s equivalent to a $303 higher cost for the sample motorists polled in the study.

As the numbers show, Chicago and four bordering suburbs (including Skokie) make up the top five in the expensive category. When ValuePenguin found the places with the least expensive car insurance, it turned out the be places in central Illinois, some of which are home to the state’s largest universities.

Normal (home of Illinois State University) has the least expensive car insurance average per year, followed by Galesburg, Quincy, Bloomington and Champaign.
