Skokie Crime: Burglar Pretends To Check Water, Tow Truck Steals Van, Say Police

SKOKIE, IL — The following information comes from the Skokie Police Department. It is a record of police activity. Criminal charges can be dropped or reduced and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty in court.
RUSE BURGLARY
On March 2 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. a man described as white, in his 30's, with a medium build, wearing dark clothing, with brown hair and no facial hair, entered the elderly victim's residence on the 4900 block of Chase Avenue on the pretense of checking the water. Once inside jewelry and money were stolen.

BOMB THREAT
Police received a report the night of March 1 that someone wrote alarming statements on bathroom stall doors at Federal Mogul at 7450 McCormick Boulevard. The building was searched and the threat was found to be unfounded, police said.

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT
Sometime between Feb. 13 and Feb. 28, a dodge van was taken from the Body Works at 8444 Niles Center Road by an unknown tow truck.
THEFT
Between Feb. 20 and March 1, someone stole two rings from the victim's jewelry box on the 5000 block of Dobson Street.
BURGLARY
On the evening of Feb. 25, someone pried open the front door of a home on the 9100 block of Laramie Avenueand stole jewelry.
RETAIL THEFT
On Feb. 7 around 11:40 a.m. a man described as possibly of Middle- Eastern descent, in his early 20's, 170 lbs., with light skin tone, short black hair and short black beard, stole alcohol from Marianos at 3358 Touhy Avenue.
On Feb. 24 around 5:30 p.m a woman described as black stole multiple items and ran out of the Ann Taylor store at 4999 Old Orchard Center.
BURGLARIES FROM CARS
On the evening of Feb. 24, someone broke the rear passenger's side window of the victim's vehicle and stole her purse from the Holiday Inn at 5300 Touhy Avenue
On Feb. 25 at 11:13 a.m. a woman stole the purse from a driver who stopped to put air in a flat tire at the Shell station located at 3301 Howard Street.
Between Feb. 26 and Feb. 27, someone entered a victim's unlocked Jeep and stole gift cards on the 5000 block of Dobson Street.
Between Feb. 28 at 3:20 p.m. and March 1 at 2:01 p.m. someone entered the victim's unlocked vehicle and stole two children's pocket knives.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
Feb. 24 between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. at the Walmart located at 3626 Touhy Avenue, someone used a sharp object to scratch a victim's vehicle.
CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT TO PROPERTY
On Jan. 27 around 1:22 p.m. at Sigler's Auto Body Shop at 7501 Lincoln Avenue, someone used white spray paint to write words on the rear fence.
CRIMINAL TRESSPASSING
On Feb. 27 around 6:30 p.m. at the Educational Service Center at 9440 Kenton Avenue, three possibly male people were on the building's roof without permission. They ran south from building after being seen.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT
Someone used a blocked phone number to call in a fake residential burglary in progress on March 2 around 9:00 p.m on the 9100 block of Kenneth Avenue.
IDENTITY THEFT
Sometime between Nov. 16-26 someone fraudulently used credit information of a victim on the 5100 block of Weber Lane, to make purchases.
Sometime between Nov. 23 and Jan. 15, someone fraudulently used a Goldtree Realty business account to make purchases.
Sometime between June 1 and Feb. 1, someone fraudulently used credit information of a victim on the 8200 block of Springfield Avenue to open a Comcast account.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
On Feb. 24 at 8:20 p.m., three unknown subjects set fire to the garbage can at Terminal Park, 9401 Kenton Avenue, and ran away.
Sometime before 8:00 p.m. Feb. 25 someone used a sharp object to scratch the paint on the victim's vehicle on the 4700 block of Keeney Street.
DECEPTIVE PRACTICE
On Feb. 23 at 9:00 a.m., a victim on the 7900 block of Kolmar Avenue gave an unknown caller access to her computer over the telephone.
FORGERY
On Feb. 25 between 7:35 p.m. and 8:36 p.m. an man described as black used a fictitious driver's license to open a Nordstrom account in a victim's name and purchased several items with the victim's credit at the Nordstrom located at 4937 Old Orchard Center.
THEFT
Sometime between February 10 at 12:00 a.m. and February 25 at 10:00 a.m. someone with access to the victim's home stole jewelry on the 4400 block of Palma Place.
On Feb. 26 Someone stole a victim's unsecured blue bicycle from their backyard on the 8800 block of Lincolnwood Drive.
