Skokie Crime: Burglar Quickly Leaves After Stealing Purse From Kitchen

SKOKIE, IL — The following information comes from the Skokie Police Department as a record of police activity. Criminal charges represent merely accusations and can be dropped or reduced. Everyone is presumed innocent until their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
BURGLARY
Someone entered the caller's unlocked vehicle on the 3800 block of Jerome Street, between March 26 at 7:30 a.m. and March 29 at 7:45 a.m. and stole her book bag containing what were described as important documents.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT/DAMAGE
Someone used an unknown black writing tool to draw what appeared to be "SDK" on a Village of Skokie sign on the 8300 block of Lawndale Avenue, on March 25 at 4:49 p.m..

Someone used paint to write "GDs" and other illegible markings on a garage on the 4800 block of Wright Terrace, at some point between Jan 1 at 12:00 a.m. and March 26 at 10:48 a.m..
Someone used a black marker and pink wax pen to write illegible markings on a utility control box on the 4800 block of Main Street, on March 28 at 7:42 a.m..
Someone used a red marker to draw various markings, described as "crowns and pitchforks", and letters on a bathroom stall at Imperial Realty at 8001 Lincoln Avenue, on March 16 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m..
PORT-O-ARSON
Someone set fire to a portable toilet at 8325 Central Park Avenue, McNally Park, on March 29 between 12:10 a.m. and 12:15 a.m.
DECEPTIVE PRACTICE
Someone made an unauthorized withdrawal on the victim's bank account on the 4100 block of Old Orchard Road, on March 26 between 1:56 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Someone scammed the victim by telling him to pay some money or his power would be turned off on the 9300 block of Skokie Boulevard, on March 27 between 11:30 a.m. and 5:20 p.m.
IDENTITY THEFT
Someone used the victim's credit card information to make 2 unauthorized purchases on the 9500 block of Kostner Avenue, on March 23 between 12:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
Someone hacked into the victim's online Amazon account and conducted 13 fraudulent transactions on the 5300 block of Wright Terrace, on March 5 between 12:00 a.m. and 2:12 p.m..
Someone used the victim's credit card information to make unauthorized purchases on the 4800 block of Wright Terrace, between February 24 at 8:00 a.m. and March 22 at 9:00 a.m..
THEFT
Someone stole 2 pieces of medical equipment from US Diagnostic at 9333 Lawler Avenue, between March 3 at 5:28 p.m. and March 24 at 5:28 p.m.
Someone stole the victim's iPad 2 from his backyard while it was unattended on the 4700 block of Church Street, on March 24 at 1:30 p.m..
Someone stole the victim's mislaid tablet on the 7000 block of Carpenter Road, between March 25 at 8:25 p.m. and March 26 at 3:00 a.m..
Someone stole a dark gray 17" 10 speed girl's bicycle from a rear yard on the 5000 block of Lee Street, between March 26 at 3:00 p.m. and March 27 at 7:00 a.m..
Someone reached over the front counter and stole cash from the register at Rita Salon at 5008 Dempster Street, on March 29 at 3:01 p.m..
THEFT FROM CAR
Someone removed all four tires and rims from the victim's vehicle on the 3900 block of Mulford Street, between March 29 at 9:30 p.m. and March 30 at 3:25 a.m..
Someone removed all four tires and rims from the victim's vehicle on the 7800 block of East Prairie Road, between March 29 at 10:30 p.m. and March 30 at 3:34 a.m..
Someone stole the front license plate of the victim's vehicle on the 7900 block of Lowell Avenue, between March 27 at 6:00 p.m. and March 28 at 9:00 a.m.
LOST PROPERTY STOLEN
Someon claimed and stole the victim's wallet which he had accidentally dropped 7-11 at 7950 Crawford Avenue, on March 28 between 10:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m..
HOME BURGLARY
Someone used an unknown pry tool in an attempt to gain entry. After being unsuccessful, he was observed running away. He was described as 20-30 years old man with dark complexion, black hair, wearing a dark blue beret, a tan blazer, and dark blue or black pants.
Someone gained entry to the victim's residence and took various jewelry pieces on the 8800 block of Lacrosse Avenue, on March 28 between 10:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m..
Someone entered a home on the 8300 block of St. Louis on March 22 shortly after 10 p.m. via an unlocked side door and stole a purse from the kitchen table before leaving quickly through the same door.
DECEPTIVE PRACTICES
Someone called victims on the 3800 block of Brummel Street, two times on March 21 between 10:09 a.m. and March 22 at 4:37 p.m. and scammed them into sending money via Western Union.
Someone stole the victim's wallet possibly while it was hanging on a chair at Maggiano's at 4999 Old Orchard Center on March 19 between 11:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and attempted to make multiple transactions at Nordstrom and Macys.
Someone stole a victim's wallet from a purse while it was hanging on a chair at the Panera at 9611 Skokie Boulevard, on March 22 between 1:30 p.m. and 3:55 p.m..
Someone stole a wallet from an unlocked locker on two separate occasions at the X-Sport at 3450 Touhy Avenue, on March 23 at 9:45 a.m. and 9:20 p.m.
THEFT/SHOPLIFTING
A man and woman described as African-American entered the Lovers Lane at 9249 Skokie Boulevard, on March 28 between 3:15 p.m. and 3:23 p.m. As the man went to the car, the woman took various items off the display counter and walked out of the store without paying.
Someone stole copper wire from a theater under construction on two separate occasions between March 15 at 1:00 p.m. and March 20 at 5:00 a.m.
Someone stole the victim's Verizon Wireless work tracking device while her vehicle was being repaired at Sherman Dodge at 7601 Skokie Boulevard, on March 16 between 11:00 a.m. and 2:46 p.m.
Two women described as African-American were seen concealing clothing items in a duffel bag at the Baby Gap at 4999 Old Orchard Center on March 23 between 6:30 p.m. and 6:51 p.m. The manager began to ask them questions to distract them while she called 9-1-1. The two women then put the items back and left the store. One subject is described as 20-22 years of age, slim build, wearing a black Adidas sweatshirt, black Adidas pants, and white Adidas gym shoes. The second subject is described as 20-22 years of age, slim build, wearing red khaki pants and carrying a red duffel bag.
A woman hid several cosmetic products in her handbag and walked past the last point of purchase at Ulta at 5481 Touhy Avenue on March 20 between 9:00 p.m. and 9:01 p.m. The woman was described as Asian, 20-25 years of age, slim build, blonde/brown hair in a bun.
One man hid several protein bars in his pocket as another man subject walked alongside him at the Jewel grocery store at 9449 Skokie Boulevard, on March 22 between 1:10 a.m. and 1:15 a.m. The two subjects then left the store and fled in a newer silver Dodge Neon. Both subjects were described as Caucasian men in their 20's.
A suspect described as an African American man stole a pair of Tom Ford sunglasses from Grand Vision at 3310 Touhy Avenue, on March 23 between 3:20 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and left the store.
VARIOUS ARRESTS
Jie Y. Lee, 23, of the 3600 block of Salem Walk in Northbrook, was arrested and accused of stealing from the Sephora at 4999 Old Orchard Center, on March 20.
Emily A. Keesling, 24, of the 1400 block of West Montrose Avenue in Chicago, was arrested and accused of stealing from the Lord & Taylor at at 4847 Old Orchard Center, on March 21.
Jacob N. Cherney, 18, of the 6200 block of Lincoln Avenue in Morton Grove, was arrested for Battery on the 5700 block of Oakton Street on March 22.
Russell L. Chaffee, 47, of the 1700 block of North Spaulding Avenue in Chicago, was arrested for an out of state warrant at 7300 Niles Center Road on March 24.
David D. Ayush, 31. of the 10000 block of Frontage Road, was arrested for an in-state warrant at 7300 Niles Center Road, on March 27.
Syed T. Akbar, 37, of the 9000 block of Skokie Boulevard, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine on the 5000 block of Golf Road, on March 29.
