Skokie Fire Department to Host Blood Drive on September 13, 2014 ~ In support of One-Year-Old Cancer Patient Kylia Abbott ~

On Saturday, September 13, 2014, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Skokie Fire Department will hold a blood drive at Fire Station 17, 8157 Central Park Avenue, Skokie, Illinois. The blood drive is being held in support of one-year-old Kylia Abbott who was diagnosed with high-risk stage neuroblastoma earlier this year. As part of her treatment, Kylia has already received over 18 blood transfusions.
Kylia’s father, Nathan Abbott, is a Highland Park Firefighter and Purple Heart recipient from his service during Operation Iraqi Freedom. “Through his service in the military and as a fire fighter, Nathan has dedicated his life to protecting and helping people,” said Skokie Deputy Fire Chief Jim Walters. “Skokie fire fighters learned about Kylia’s circumstances and wanted to help Nathan as he has helped so many others. I am proud of them for organizing the blood drive to support this family. The Skokie Fire Department also will have fun activities for the whole family during the event.”
