Skokie Idol Auditions Return

The annual competitive singing competition begins Jan. 20 at Skokie Theatre.

SKOKIE, IL — Competitive live singing with an elimination format is returning to Skokie as Skokie Idol kicks off with auditions this month.

One winner from each age division – junior, teen and adult – will be featured during a Wednesday on the Green concert downtown on July 11 along with a $100 gift card, according to the theater.

Up to 12 contestants in each age range will be selected by a panel of judges at the auditions, which begin at noon on Jan. 20 at the Skokie Theatre, 7924 Lincoln Ave.

Sing-offs will take place every subsequent Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. after the field is narrowed. Performers will be judged by both the audience and judges, and one or more contestant will be eliminated every week.

The final rounds will take place in April, featuring three songs from each contestant with a live musical accompanist.

To audition, you may sing a Capella, use karaoke tracks, bring your own instrument or use the piano on site, according to the theater.

Age ranges for the youth division are grades 3-8 for junior and grades 8-12 for teen, however they are subject to change depending on audition turnout.
