Skokie Crime: Armed Robbers At 7-11s, Car Stolen In Walgreens Lot

Skokie Police Reports: April 8 - April 21

SKOKIE, IL — The following information comes from the Skokie Police Department as a record of police activity. Criminal charges represent merely accusations and all defendants are presumed innocent until their guilt is established in court.

7-ELEVEN ARMED ROBBERIES

Around 2:30 a.m. on April 8, the 7-Eleven at 4834 Church St. was robbed by two men armed with a handgun and described as 18-22 years old, African-American, wearing black masks, black hooded sweatshirts and black plants. They drove a dark colored SUV and took about $700 in cash from the store, police were told. Minutes later, between 2:44 a.m. and 2:50 a.m. the same morning, two suspects matching the same description took an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes from a 7-Eleven at 8357 Skokie Blvd. The investigation into the two apparently related robberies is continuing.

SMASH AND GRAB

Shortly after 3:30 a.m. on April 13, three men or boys described as wearing black and gray hoodies, black and gray pants and all ranging from 150-190 lbs. reportedly used a brick to break the front window at Toni's Liquors at 4033 Old Orchard Road. The trio removed an undisclosed quantity of cigarettes and liquor.

SHOPLIFTING

Sometime between 9:39 p.m. and 9:44 p.m. on April 12, a woman described as 30-40 years of age, African-American, wearing a black baseball cap, blue jacket, and black pants selected miscellaneous cosmetics and four six-packs of beer and left the CVS at 3434 Dempster without paying for all the items. She was seen inside a dark-colored four-door sedan and was accompanied by man subject, 40-50 years of age, African-American, wearing a blue shirt, blue puffy coat and blue jeans.

THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE

Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on April 13. Someone left their car running outside the Walgreens at 3945 Dempster Street. Someone stole the car, which had the keys left in the ignition.

THEFT WHILE SHOPPING

At 4 p.m. on April 13 someone took a victim’s purse from inside a cart while the victim was shopping at the Jewel located at 9449 Skokie Boulevard.

BURGLARIES AND THEFTS FROM MOTOR VEHICLES

Someone stole the entire front bumper and license plate from a car parked on the 8900 block of Bronx Avenue between between 6 p.m. on April 8 and 10:30 p.m. on April 9.

Someone stole a victim's purse from the front seat of an unlocked car in the lot of the Walmart at 3626 Touhy Avenue, at 4:21 a.m. on April 14.

Someone broke the rear driver-side window of a victim's car on the 4900 block of Crain Avenue sometime between 7:30 p.m. on April 13 and 8:30 a.m. on April 14. The intruder ransacked the vehicle and stole a purse containing $2,300 in cash.

Sometime between 11 p.m April 7 and 7 a.m. on April 8, someone entered an unlocked vehicle on the 4800 block of Birchwood Avenue and peeled the steering column and took a drill and a set of drill bits from the trunk.

Sometime between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. on April 8, someone gained entry to a victim’s vehicle, ransacked the interior, and stole the victim’s garage door opener on the 5000 block of Fargo Avenue.

Sometime between 2:00 p.m. on April 8 and 8:30 a.m. on April 10 entered a victim’s vehicle and stole power tools and other miscellaneous tools on the 9500 block of Lamon Avenue.

At 11:31 a.m. on April 10, someone got into a victim’s vehicle and stole two purses from the back seat on the 9600 block of Skokie Boulevard.

IDENTITY THEFT

Someone filed a false tax return using the information of a victim on the 8000 block of Keeler Avenue on March 3.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Sometime between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on April 13, someone damaged a victim’s vehicle while it was parked in the rear parking area of the victim’s residence on the 9000 block of Bronx Avenue.

Between 12:30 p.m. on April 8 and 6:00 a.m. on April 10 someone damaged the rear window of a victim’s residence on the 4000 block of Golf Road.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m. on April 7, someone damaged a window of a vehicle parked at Sherman Dodge at 7601 Skokie Boulevard using a rock.

Someone damaged a parked car between April 7 and April 9 on the 9000 block of East Prairie Avenue.
Someone damaged the living room window of a victim on the 8500 block of Niles Center Road at 7:17 p.m. on April 9. The victim was home at the time.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

At 8:42 a.m. on April 12, someone used a white and pink marker or paint to write unreadable letters on two dumpsters in the alley in the 4800 block of Elm Street.

MAIL THEFT

Sometime between 12 a.m. on April 3 and 10 a.m. on April 12. Someone stole two packages belonging to the victim from the mailbox common area of an apartment building on the 4800 block of Conrad Street.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES

$2,980 in three fradulent checks was cashed between April 6 and April 12 from the account of a victim on the 9900 block of Lawler Avenue.

VARIOUS ARRESTS

Ronald T. Anstead, 52, of the 400 block of Maple Street in Joliet, was arrested for retail theft from Binny’s, 4830 Dempster St., on April 12.

Mansfield L. Wallace, 45, of the 1300 block of McDaniel Avenue in Evanston, was arrested for retail theft from Walmart, 3626 Touhy Avenue, on April 13.

A 17-year-old Chicago juvenile was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding, resisting a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, and driving with no valid driver’s license on the 7100 block of Keating Avenue in Lincolnwood on April 15.

Carlos P. Torrez, 25, of the 4000 block of Harvard Terrace, was arrested for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia on the 3200 block of Touhy Avenue, on April 7.

Anthony Rogers Jr., 24, of the 4600 block of Madison Street, was arrested for possession of cannabis and obstructing a peace officer on the 4600 block of Madison Avenue, on April 7.

Andrew A. Moran, 18, of the 4800 block of Conrad Street, was arrested for possession of cannabis, possession of a controlled Substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia on the 4500 block of Golf Road, on April 8.

Fernando Mendez, 50, of the 4600 block of North Ashland Avenue in Chicago, was arrested for aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol on the 7900 block of Lincoln Avenue, on April 10.
