Skokie Police Investigate Fatal Shooting On Main Street
Detectives are investigating after a 22-year-old man was shot and killed around 8:45 p.m. Monday, police said.
SKOKIE, IL — A man was fatally shot in Skokie Monday night, authorities said. Police received a 911 call of gunfire around 8:46 p.m. in the 4700 block of Main Street. Arriving officers found a man who had been shot multiple times outside of a home on the south side of the street, police said.
The man was taken to a local hospital, and police are investigating the shooting as a homicide. The North Regional Major Crimes Task force was activated, and police shut down Main Street between Kilpatrick Avenue and Skokie Boulevard.
Edward L. James Jr., 22, who lived on the block where the shooting took place, was identified as the man killed in the shooting, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. He was pronounced dead at Skokie Hospital at 9:16 p.m. The cause and manner of his death will be determined following an autopsy.

Police said they consider the shooting an "isolated incident" that poses no further threat to the general public. There is a gas station and a convenience store at the corner of Route 41 and Main Street in the block where the homicide occurred. A black BMW was seen being towed from the scene after police shut down Main Street for the investigation, WLS reported. On the afternoon of the shooting, village officials announced emergency water main repair on the eastbound lanes of Main Street. Westbound lanes remained open, but the lane closures had been expected to continue through Monday evening.
