Skokie Police Warn Of Spate Of Catalytic Converter Thefts
Seven catalytic converters were reported stolen in the past five days, police said.

SKOKIE, IL — Skokie police are warning the public about an uptick in thefts of catalytic converters. Over a five-day period ending Sunday, there were seven reports of stolen catalytic converters, according to the Skokie Police Department.
The reported locations of the thefts:
- 9000 block of Keating Avenue
- 9200 block of Keating Avenue
- 8800 block of Lamon Avenue
- 8900 block of LaCrosse Avenue
- 7500 block of Kildare Avenue
- 7600 block of Kenneth Avenue
Skokie police recommend parking in well-lit areas and calibrating your vehicle's security system to activate with slight motions. Police also suggest etching your vehicle identification number into your catalytic converter or having a mechanic weld the converter to the exhaust system to help prevent it from being stolen. There are also commercial catalytic converter theft prevention devices, designed to protect your converter and make it more difficult for thieves to steal.
