Skokie School On Lockdown, Investigation Shuts Down Kenton Avenue
Old Orchard Junior High was put on lockdown Tuesday afternoon while police investigated a possibly suicidal person across the street.

SKOKIE, IL — Police shut down the area of a Skokie middle school Tuesday during an investigation into a possibly suicidal person in the area. Skokie police closed the road in front of Old Orchard Junior High School and asked the public to stay away from the area around the school.
Police were dispatched to a call of a possibly suicidal citizen in need of assistance across the street from the middle school around 2:30 p.m. Shortly after 3 p.m., police announced Kenton Avenue between Gross Point Road and Church Street was closed to traffic. Officers had not confirmed the nature of the incident by around 3:15 p.m., but Old Orchard Junior High was placed on lockdown pending the investigation, police said.
Skokie police said Old Orchard students who normally take the bus home would be picked up on the west side of the building. Police asked parents picking up students to meet in the parking lot of the Jewel Osco at 9449 Skokie Blvd. District 68 administrators released a statement confirming all students were safe.

The area was still closed to through traffic shortly after 4 p.m. and police continued to ask the public to stay away from the area. By 5 p.m., the incident was resolved, police said. No injuries were reported.
