Skokie Walmart Holds 'Re-Grand Opening' Ceremony After Remodel

Village officials will be on hand at Friday's event to highlight upgrades including a new register lane.

SKOKIE, IL — Village officials will be on hand Friday morning at the Skokie Walmart to celebrate the store's remodeling, company representatives announced.

The "re-grand opening" ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the 3626 Touhy Ave. store. Special guests will include Mayor George Van Dusen, representatives of the Skokie Police Department, the Skokie Fire Department and the Skokie Chamber of Commerce, according to Walmart representatives.

Store upgrades include a new employee-operated register lane and the relocation of online grocery pickup, which company representatives said was aimed at protecting customers and workers from the COVID-19 virus.

Walmart officials have also added a new "$1 Shop" and a grab=and=go deli item area at the front of the Skokie store.

"Skokie is a tight-knit community," Walmart store manager George Georgiev said in a statement, "and we can’t wait for new and longtime shoppers to experience the upgrades we’ve made to our store.”
