Skokie Woman With West Nile 'Improving'

The 50-year-old became the second person this year to test positive for the virus.

The Skokie adult who became the second person to test positive for the West Nile virus in Illinois this year is a 50-year-old woman who is back home after a five-day hospital stay, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The woman is improving, but was quite ill for awhile. She “did not recall getting bitten by a mosquito,” Dr. Catherine Counard, director of health for the village of Skokie, said.

New of the woman’s positive West Nile result came just a day after the state’s first positive human case, that of an adolescent girl in St. Clair County, which is near St. Louis.
