St. Timothy’s Skokie Uses the Advent Calendar to Help Others
'Tis the Season! St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in Skokie Encourages You to Fill a Bag with Non-perishable Food, Helpful Items for the Poor

You've probably seen the Advent Calendars that are traditionally used by some families to count the days leading up to Christmas. Every day, the children take a small gift, or treat of some kind, from the calendar. This year, the countdown starts on December 3rd, the first Sunday of Advent, and ends on Christmas Eve.
St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in Skokie has reversed the process so that families can give instead of taking in the days leading up to Christmas. Folks who want to participate give a nonperishable food item or something else that would help sustain our poor and hungry neighbors. For example, a can of chili, a brand new pair of warm socks, a chocolate bar, etc., until you have one item or small package for each day.
"Reverse" Advent bags for shopping and gathering your gift items are available free for pick up at St. Tim's, 9000 Kildare Ave. in Skokie. They contain a list of helpful items suggested by the Niles Township Food Pantry. Church office hours are Monday through Thursday from 9am to 5pm. When the bag is filled, drop it off at the office during the week or bring it to worship service on Christmas Eve. Call the church at 847.676.1300 for more information.
