The Civil War Concludes

At NSSC, Northfield Location:

Gary Midkiff, College Professor

Go back 150 years to the last year of the American Civil War. Gary Midkiff takes you first to the spring of 1864, when General Ulysses S. Grant's army heads south toward Richmond and towards General Robert E. Lee. Lee had only half as many soldiers as Grant, but executed a powerful defensive strategy. Lee had won the lengthy battle ... but Grant had guaranteed that the Union would win the war. Then to April 1865 - the month that changed America. Within 30 days a President was assassinated, two major armies surrendered, the most famous General in American history disobeyed his President, and the future of the country was buffeted by a series of unrelated political events. The Civil War did not go gently into the night.
