Towels.
Dogs, especially puppies and young dogs, will try to eat a lot of inedible stuff. Some of that stuff is benign, some of it will make them sick and some of it is deadly.
My intention is not to make a list of dangerous, or potentially dangerous, objects and plants a dog can ingest, but to talk specifically about towels.
Towels pose a singularly dangerous threat because the fibers of the terry cloth are long. They can wrap around the intestines of your dog and create a blockage where infection can develop. If the infection goes undetected for a period of time the dog can become septic and die.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Do not put a towel in the crate with your puppy or dog. Nor should you use a towel as a crate cover, because your dog can pull the towel into the crate. Do not leave your puppy or dog unsupervised with a towel. But if you discover that your dog has eaten part of the towel, treat this as a medical emergence and seek medical attention immediately.
