Village of Skokie Selected for EV Readiness Program

The Village of Skokie was announced today as one of the first sixteen communities selected to participate in the EV Readiness Program led by ComEd and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus. This initiative aims to help communities streamline policies and implement best practices for safe and effective electrification of regional transportation and to prepare to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) and EV charging infrastructure.

Members of the inaugural cohort will begin work in early December and will receive free technical assistance and training in a variety of critical areas. It is expected that these communities will receive “EV Ready Community” designation status within six to nine months.

Attainment of the “EV Ready Community” designation is one of the first steps in implementation of the Village’s new Environmental Sustainability Plan. Passed unanimously by the Skokie Village Board at their November 21, 2022 meeting, this comprehensive and ambitious plan will guide the Village’s programs, actions, and policies in the coming years.
