Cultural historian and public speaker
Barry Bradford discusses one aspect of the Dick Van Dyke show that you may not
have realized. The
Dick Van Dyke Show is well remembered as one of the wittiest situation comedies
in the history of television. What is less well remembered is that it was a
deceptive innovator. It contrasts sharply with the situation comedies of the
1950s; in fact it ushers in a new era. It was the first sitcom to be set in
suburbia, to feature both work and home is a central focus, to present a modern
housewife as well as the first show to feature a professional woman in the
workplace. This unique presentation will highlight one of the most iconic
programs and early TV history. $10 at the door. For more information call Joan Marks at 224/233-2366.
