Woman Killed in Yellow Line Crash Identified

The 62-year old Skokie resident was a passenger in a car when it was hit by a CTA Yellow Line train Monday morning.

SKOKIE, IL - A 62-year-old Skokie woman has been identified as the fatal victim of Monday morning’s collision involving a car and a CTA Yellow Line train in Skokie.

Blandina Hermez, 62 was a passenger in the vehicle that was struck by the eastbound train at 10:21 a.m. at the East Prairie Road CTA crossing, according to the Skokie Police Department. The driver of the car, a 45-year-old woman from Skokie, was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition and five CTA passengers were injured.

Yellow Line service had been suspended for much of the day Monday, but normal service was returned Monday night according to the CTA.

A preliminary investigation suggests the car was traveling southbound when it was struck by the eastbound train. The status of the crossing gates at the time of the crash is still unknown.
