1 Critically Injured In East Side Fire

The roof of a building on Ewing Avenue collapsed during a morning fire that took hours to put out.

CHICAGO, IL - Firefighters worked for much of the morning on Friday to but out a 2-11 alarm fire on the city's East Side. Officials reported three victims of a fire that broke out before 9 a.m. at a two-story building in the 10500 block of South Ewing Avenue, including one who has been hospitalized in critical condition.

The fire was struck out around 10:45 a.m., according to Chicago Fire Department media officials. Before crews left, the roof of the building collapsed.

The seriously injured person was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, while another victim was taken to nearby Advocate Trinity Hospital in the city's Calumet Heights neighborhood. A third person refused medical treatment.

It does not appear that any firefighters were injured while battling the blaze.
