2 Indicted In Roseland Murder For Hire, Shot Man Walking Out Of Church
Two men are accused in the 2022 fatal shooting of another young man in Roseland for money. One suspect is still at large, feds say.
CHICAGO — A pair of Chicagoans are charged in the murder-for-hire plot of another young man who was shot to death as he walked out of a church youth center, according to the federal indictment unsealed last Wednesday.
Anthony Montgomery-Wilson, 24, and Preston Powell, 23, are charged with conspiracy to use an interstate facility in the commission of a murder for hire, namely a Chrysler 300 and cell phone. Montgomery-Wilson, aka "AJ" and "Mike City AJ" also faces a firearm charge. He is currently in custody of law enforcement.
Powell, aka Marley, is still at large and considered a fugitive. A warrant has been issued for Powell’s arrest.

The pair are accused of gunning down Stephon Mack, 24, the afternoon of Jan. 27, 2022, as he walked out of the Youth Peace Center of Roseland in the 400 block of West 111th Street. A security guard from the Center was also wounded in the shooting but survived.
According to the unsealed indictment and arrest warrant, two gunmen emerged from a Chrysler 300 and started firing at Mack, striking him in the head and chest. Mack was pronounced dead on the scene. A 40-year-old security guard from the youth center was also wounded but survived.

Montgomery-Wilson and Powell are both accused of conspiring to murder Mack for money.
The murder-for-hire charges each carry a mandatory sentence of life in federal prison, while a sentence of death is also possible. The firearm charge against Montgomery-Wilson is punishable by up to ten years.
