5-Year-Old Girl Killed After Car Runs Red Light

Seven people were also injured in the accident that killed a 5-year-old Chicago girl.

CHICAGO, IL — A Sunday morning crash left a 5-year-old girl dead and seven others injured, according to a report. The girl, Dianela Chavez, was riding in a car that ran a red light and hit an SUV, the Chicago Tribune reports.

A 41-year-old woman was driving the Ford Focus with Dianela and three other girls around 10:25 a.m. in the 4200 block of South San Francisco Avenue in the Brighton Park neighborhood, the report says.

The driver ran a red light in the intersection of W. 43rd Street and S. Western Avenue and crashed into a Ford SUV with two adults and two kids inside, the Tribune reported.

One man in the Ford SUV was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in serious condition. The other man, and two boys, in the SUV were in good condition, the report says.

The girls from the Focus were taken to Stroger Hospital. Dianela was pronounced dead soon after 11 a.m. and the other girls, ages 16, 15 and 13, were in good condition, according to the Tribune report.
