64-Year-Old Man Fatally Shot With 'Ghost Gun' In Green Lake Woods
A Calumet City man has been charged in the fatal shooting. Cook County Sheriff's Police said serial number had been removed from the gun.

CALUMET CITY, IL – A Calumet City man has been charged in the shooting death of a 64-year-old man at a forest preserve Tuesday afternoon. Jaylen D. Lewis, 19, has been charged with first-degree murder.
Cook County Sheriff’s Police responded to a call of shots being fired just before 12:30 p.m. at the Green Lake Woods Forest Preserve in Calumet City.
Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced a murder charge today in the shooting of a 64-year-old Lansing man Tuesday afternoon at a forest preserve in Calumet City. When police arrived, they found a Chevrolet Malibu stuck in dense brush.

The driver was trying to put the car in reverse. Officers saw Lewis toss a gun, magazine and black backpack from the car, police said.
Officers found a 64-year-old man from Lansing on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

During a search of the area, officers found a black firearm with no make, model or serial, which was determined to be a “ghost gun.” The magazine and backpack, which contained small bags of what appeared to be cannabis, were also recovered.
Lewis was taken into custody on suspicion of murder, and sheriff’s police detectives launched an investigation. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the first-degree murder charge on Thanksgiving. Lewis was ordered held without bond during a court hearing later in the day.
