9-Year-Boy's Shooting Death In South Side Home Ruled A Homicide
The young boy suffered gunshot wounds to the face, neck and hand, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said.
CHICAGO — The death of a young boy who was fatally shot inside his home on New Year’s Day, in the Washington Heights neighborhood, has now been ruled a homicide. The Cook County Medical Examiner identified the child as 9-year-old Jarvis Watts.
Just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday, 22nd District police went to the 9400 block of South Wallace for a call of a person shot. The 9-year-old was discovered inside the home with gunshot wounds to the face, neck and hand.
The boy was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, and was later pronounced dead at 7:49 p.m.

An autopsy revealed that Jarvis died of multiple gunshot wounds. The medical examiner ruled the boy’s death a homicide following an autopsy on Monday.
22nd District Chicago Police Commander Sean Joyce told ABC 7 Chicago that there were multiple children and adults in the house when the shooting occurred.

“All of the people who were present at the time are currently being interviewed by our detectives,” Joyce said.
Among the relatives still being questioned are the boy's mother as CPD Area Two detectives try to piece together the events leading to the shooting. No arrests have been made. The weapon has not been located.
