Accused Cop Killer Arrested In Glendale Heights: Police
Xavier Tate, Jr., 22, was arrested Wednesday evening by Chicago police and U.S. Marshals in connection Ofcr. Luis Huesca's shooting death.

CHICAGO — The suspect sought in the slaying of a police officer was arrested Wednesday evening after an intense manhunt in Glendale Heights, Chicago police said in a statement.
Xavier Tate, Jr., 22, was picked up by members of the Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Task Force for the murder of Officer Luis Huesca. He was reportedly handcuffed with the fallen officer’s own handcuffs.
Huesca was in uniform when he was gunned down two days from his 31st birthday near his home in Gage Park in the early morning hours of April 21. Within hours after the young officer's slaying, Chicago police released photos and videos of a man, identified as a "person of interest."

Police issued a warrant for Tate's arrest last week. A combined reward of $100,000 was offered for information leading to Tate's arrest and conviction.
He had been under surveillance for the past several days, including traveling to Iowa, news reports said. Police did not say where he had gone in Iowa.

It was also learned that law enforcement had executed a warrant Friday at the home of the suspect’s 20-year-old relative, Caschaus Tate. He was taken into custody when investigators found 9mm Glock handgun that turned out to be Huesca's missing service weapon. Tate was taken into custody for allegedly violating his pretrial release on an unrelated burglary case out of Markham. He was also charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
During a hearing Wednesday at the Markham Court House to determine if Caschaus Tate's pretrial release should be revoked, prosecutors said that when police showed up at the younger Tate's home, he excused himself to go to his room, where he claimed his girlfriend was naked.
Officers stationed outside Caschaus' residence, spotted him climbing out a window on to the roof, where he was seen tossing a gun into a neighboring back yard, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors also said that several hours after Huesca's slaying, Xavier Tate took an Uber to his relative's home. Police haven't said how the two are related.
Chicago police released photos and security video from convenience stores of a man identified as a “person of interest.” A warrant was later issued for Tate’s arrest.
The Cook County Crimestoppers, ATO, Chicago Police Memorial Foundation and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 put up a combined reward of $100,000 for information leading to Tate’s arrest and conviction.
“The investigation continues and no further information is available at this time. We ask that the people in this city continue to support the Huesca family by keeping them in your prayers as the continue to mourn the loss of a beloved son, brother and uncle,” police said.
This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
