CHICAGO—A single-car crash late Monday evening in Bronzeville left two dead and four others injured. The 28-year-old driver is in police custody.
Around 11:50 p.m., a gray sedan traveling eastbound on 47th Street when the driver lost control of the car and hit a fire hydrant, Chicago police said.
Two passengers, a 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, were ejected from the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County Medical Examiner identified the 25-year-old as Trevon White.
A 21-year-old woman suffered severe trauma and was transported to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
A fourth passenger, a 26-year-old man, was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he is listed in fair condition.
The fifth passenger, a 23-year-old woman, was also transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition with minor injuries. A 17-year-old girl was treated at the scene.
Chicago police said the 28-year-old driver was not injured and taken into custody. Charges are pending.
