Dogs Involved In Fatal Back-Of-The-Yards Mauling Are Euthanized: CACC

CHICAGO—Two Cane Corso mixes alleged to have fatally mauled a man last week in Back-of-the-Yards have been euthanized, according to Chicago Animal Care and Control.

Cesar Salgado, 56, was found unresponsive just before 9 p.m. July 2 in an alley in the 2000 block of West 47th Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner attributed the cause of death to injuries caused by a dog mauling. The death was ruled accidental.

The two dogs involved, Murdoch and Noodles, were both approximately 4-year-old Cane Corso mixes.

“Due to the severity of the incident, ownership of the animals was relinquished to Chicago Animal Care and Control,” CACC spokesman Armando Tejeda said in an email to Patch. “The dogs were subsequently humanely euthanized.”

Because the incident occurred outside CACC’s business hours, Cook County Animal and Rabies Control assisted under the extenuating circumstances.

The dogs were transported to CACC later that evening, where staff was called in to meet the responding Cook County warden and assisted with receiving the animals.

“Our thoughts are with the family and everyone affected by this unimaginable tragedy,” Tejeda said.

The mauling is currently being investigated by the Chicago Police Department.
