Southwest Side Businesses Alerted To 14 Burglaries In 2 Weeks Where Cash Registers Were Stolen

CHICAGO—Businesses are being alerted to an outbreak of burglaries in the Garfield Ridge, Archer Heights, West Lawn, Gage Park and Scottsdale neighborhoods located within the 8th Police District.

Chicago police said masked men wearing dark clothing and gloves have been smashing the glass windows or doors of a business with bricks. The crew moves into the store, grabbing cash registers before fleeing.

Fourteen burglaries have been reported between July 6 and July 20 at the following locations:

• 6900 block of W. Archer Ave on July 6 at 4:19 a.m. (Garfield Ridge)

• 6100 block of S. Archer Ave on July 6 at 05:15 a.m. (Garfield Ridge)

• 6300 block of S. Archer Ave on July 6 at 5:26 a.m. (Garfield Ridge)

• 6600 block of W. Archer Ave on July 6 at 5:26 a.m. (Garfield Ridge)

• 5000 block of S. Pulaski Ave on July 16 at 4:00 a.m. (Archer Heights)

• 5000 block of S. Pulaski Ave on July 16 at 4:10 a.m. (Archer Heights)

• 5200 block of S. Archer Ave on July 16 at 4:13 a.m. (Archer Heights)

• 5200 block of S. Archer Ave on July 16 at 4:16 a.m. (Archer Heights)

• 5900 block of S. Pulaski Ave on July 16 at 4:20 a.m. (West Lawn)

• 5800 block of S. Kedzie Ave on July 16 at 4:26 a.m. (Gage Park)

• 5100 block of S. Pulaski Ave on July 16 at 5:00 a.m. (Archer Heights)

• 7900 block of S. Cicero Ave on July 20 at 5:20 a.m. (Scottsdale)

• 7900 block of S. Cicero Ave on July 20 at 5:20 a.m. (Scottsdale)

• 7900 block of S. Cicero Ave on July 20,at 5:20 a.m. (Scottsdale)

At least four unknown males wearing masks, gloves and dark clothing were seen driving away in a Hyundai or Kia sedan.

Businesses are advised to keep the perimeter property well lit, empty registers and secure money before closing. Keep doors and windows secured. Immediately report suspicious activity. Save video surveillance for the investigating detectives, and if you are a victim, don’t touch anything. Finally, never pursue a fleeing assailant.
