CHICAGO—The body of a man was found Thursday morning in a new, unused Chicago police vehicle in the South Side Pullman neighborhood.
Around 9:15 a.m., a 911 call was placed from the Calumet 5th District police station, 727 E. 111th St., according to scanner transmissions.
"There is a body in a car," the caller told the 911 dispatcher.
"What's in a car?" the dispatcher responded.
"A dead person."
The police vehicle had not yet been placed into service, according to news reports. It was parked at the west end of the 5th District police station's lot near 112th Street and Ellis Avenue.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Chicago Fire Department removed the body and transported it to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
Authorities have not released the man's identity nor the condition in which the body was found.
Area Two detectives are conducting a death investigation.
