Attempted Murder Charge For Man Accused Of Shooting Cicero Cop
A 27-year-old from Long Beach, California is who police say exchanged gunfire with suburban police at 40th and Cicero on Thursday.

CHICAGO, IL – The man who fired several shots at Cicero police officers, striking 31-year-old Luis Duarte several times, has been identified. Chicago police announced Saturday charges against Daniel Mageo, a 27-year-old man from Long Beach, California. Mageo has been charged with aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm and two counts of attempted first degree murder in connection with the late Thursday afternoon incident that hospitalized Duarte.
Chicago police say Cicero police tried to stop Mageo, who was in a vehicle, near 40th and Cicero as part of an investigation. They say Mageo got out of the car and fired a handgun multiple times at the police officers. Duarte's partner returned fire in defense, as did an armed civilian who possessed a concealed carry license.
Police say Mageo was arrested around 5:12 p.m. and that a handgun was recovered from the scene. Mageo sustained gun shot wounds and was hospitalized. He's scheduled to appear in bond court on Saturday.
