Body Cam Shows Reputed Gang Member Shooting At Chicago Police

Bail was denied Saturday for a man accused of shooting at Chicago police officers.

CHICAGO, IL -- Police body cameras show a man firing at officers at a home in the 7600 block of South Lowe Avenue. Police said the shooting happened after officers tried to question the reputed Chicago gang member Friday afternoon. He then ran away with another man and barricaded himself in the home's basement, according to police.

Upon opening the door, officers were shot at with a .40-caliber handgun, according to a quote from Assistant State's Attorney Bob Groeber in the Chicago Tribune. Groeber said the man fired multiple shots at the officers, who went for cover and returned fire. Police said the man threatened to shoot them, but nobody was hit.

The man surrendered after a SWAT unit arrived on scene. Groeber said two handguns and 17 spent shell casings were recovered. (For more local news, subscribe to free email news alerts and a daily newsletter for your hometown Patch.)
