CHICAGO — A 2-year-old boy was shot in the face Tuesday evening on the South Side, Chicago police said. He was identified in news reports as Jamal Robindson.

Around 8:15 p.m , Chicago police officers responded to a shooting in the 11800 block of South LaSalle Street in West Pullman.

A 32-year-old relative told police she heard a loud noise and found the boy with a gunshot wound.

The child was taken in critical condition to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The relative was taken to the police station for questioning.

Chicago police said the shooting appears to be accidental.
