Bronzeville Man Charged In Toddler's Beating Death

The Department of Children and Family Services is reportedly investigating the child's family.

CHICAGO — A Chicago man is accused of beating a toddler to death in Bronzeville. Michael Robinson, 23, is charged with first degree murder.

Robinson punched 23-month-old Antwun Gayden multiple times in the head July 7 in the 4200 block of South Calumet Avenue, according to Chicago police Robinson was still on the scene when officers arrived around 12:15 p.m.

The child was brought to Comer Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:41 p.m.
An autopsy determined that Antwun had died of multiple injuries due to child abuse, the Cook County Medical Examiner said. The child’s death was ruled a homicide.

Robinson will appear Friday for a bail hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services said it is investigating Antwun’s family, which hasn’t had previous contact with DCFS, according to news reports.

Police are also investigating the death of Jessieonna L. Evans died after she was found in the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Evans, 2, was found on Tuesday. The child reportedly went to sleep but did not wake up in the morning. Autopsy reports are pending.
