Chicago Cop Hit By Car Fleeing Traffic Stop; Ensuing Chase Injures Another Person
The same vehicle hurt both individuals, who were hospitalized Tuesday for their injuries.

CHICAGO, IL — A Chicago police officer was hurt after he was hit during a traffic stop Tuesday on the South Side, leading to a chase that left another person injured by the same vehicle, the Chicago Tribune reports. Charges were pending against the driver of the vehicle, a blue Mazda, who was taken into custody by police, the report added.

At about 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, police responded to a call of two possibly armed individuals inside a business in the first block of East 75th Street in the Chatham neighborhood, the report stated. Spotting the suspects in a blue Mazda at the scene, one of the responding officers approached the vehicle. That's when the driver fled, hitting the officer as the vehicle sped off, the report added.

Police chased the Mazda, and one of the armed suspects lept from the car in the 7600 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue, the report stated. The Mazda then hit another individual in the 6700 block of South King King Drive, and the victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition after suffering minor injuries, the report added. The injured officer also was taken to an area hospital in stable condition, according to the Tribune.
