Chicago Lawn Residents Alerted To Rash of Armed Robberies, Carjackings

CHICAGO — Residents in the 8th Chicago Police District are being alerted to a rash of armed robberies and vehicular hijackings. Four separate incidents were reported in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood between April 29 and May 14, during the evening hours.

Chicago police said one to three people display a handgun while confronting victims on the street. The robbers demand the person's car or belongings, then take off in an unknown direction.

Incidents were reported at the following times and locations:

  • April 29, 10:50-10:55 p.m. 2500 block of W. 73rd St.
  • May 7, 5:30 a.m., 7400 block of S. Rockwell
  • May 12, 2024, 6 p.m., 7100 block of S. Mozart Ave.
  • May 14, 9:20 p.m., 7200 block of S. Western Ave.

The robbers are described as male blacks, 5-feet-5-inches to 5-feet-11-inches tall, and between the ages of 20 to 30 years old. All were wearing dark clothing.

  • Report suspicious activity immediately.
  • If you are confronted by an assailant, remain calm.
  • Remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc.).
  • Never pursue a fleeing assailant, provide the information to the police
  • If video surveillance is available, save a copy for detectives.
  • If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information.
  • Dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible.
