Chicago Police Officer Shot During South Side Traffic Stop Attempt
The Chicago police officer is in serious but stable condition at the hospital. Gun and car keys recovered near suspects' car, CPD says.

CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer is in serious but stable condition when she was shot Wednesday afternoon while trying to conduct a traffic stop in Englewood, CPD Supt. David Brown said in an update.
Around 5:45 p.m. in the 6100 block of South Paulina, the two uniformed officers were driving a marked squad car when they tried to make a traffic stop. The driver of the car they were trying to pull over sped up and slowed down, Brown said.
When the both vehicles were parallel to each other, Brown said someone inside the car suddenly shot into the squad car, wounding the officer in the shoulder.

Moments after the shooting, the driver of the car where shots were fired from crashed. Police found a gun and car keys near where the gun was recovered.
“It’s too early to determine if this was the gun,” the police superintendent said.

The wounded officer was taken to a hospital, where she was listed in serious but stable condition.
“We have a lot more work to do,” Brown said. “She will be held overnight for observation.”
Chicago police officers are still searching the area. Witnesses told police that after the vehicle crashed, the suspects ran in opposite directions, the Chicago Tribune reported.
“We have a full on, full court press in capturing these offenders,” Brown said. “We are setting up as wide a perimeter as we can. We have strong leads that we’re following up on.”
