Chicago Police Open Fire On Suspect Who Fled After Hitting Squad Car In South Chicago, COPA Investigating

When officers came up to one stolen car, the driver tried to flee and hit a Chicago police squad car, police said.

Three people were in custody Thursday afternoon after a Chicago police officer fired at a suspect who ran from a stolen car that had hit a squad car.

Police said at 11:32 a.m., they were investigating stolen vehicles in the area of the 8100 block of South Merrill Avenue. When officers came up to one stolen car, the driver tried to flee and hit a Chicago police squad car, police said.

One of the people in the car got out and fled on foot with a gun, at which point one Chicago police fired their gun, police said.
