CHICAGO, IL — A Chicago Transit Authority employee was involved in a shooting early Saturday at the 95th Street and Dan Ryan Red Line Station on the South Side, according to CTA officials.

A fight broke out just before 2 a.m. at the station and as the victim was walking away, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired, hitting the victim in the lower abdomen, back and lower leg, police said.

Chicago police arrested the suspect, and the victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, authorities said. Both the suspect and the victim were 53-year-old men.

Video of the incident posted to Twitter shows two men in a verbal altercation when one of the men in a gray shirt shoves the other man, who appears to be wearing a CTA uniform, to the ground. The man in the gray shirt walks away and down a flight of stairs as the uniformed man gets up with a gun drawn and follows him before firing the weapon at the man.

The CTA confirmed in a statement Saturday afternoon that the suspect was working as a customer assistant for the CTA. The CTA is seeking to terminate the employee after its internal investigation revealed he broke several workplace rules, including a prohibition on bringing firearms to work.
