The neighboring houses caught fire in the 800 block of South Kedvale Avenue, near Arthington Street. The Chicago Fire Department reported the fire just after 3 a.m.
Fire crews were spraying water on the two houses — one of them appearing to be a wood-frame workers' cottage, the other a single-story graystone. One person was seen being taken on a stretcher out of the second house to which the fire spread.
