Fleeing Car Hits Pedestrians, Killing 1, Block From Dan Ryan
A car fleeing a police stop on the South Side struck two people walking near 79th and Lafayette.

CHICAGO, IL - A 55-year-old woman was killed on Chicago's South Side Thursday evening when a car fleeing police struck two people walking one block from the Dan Ryan Expressway. Chicago police said they tried to make a stop on a dark colored sedan in the 7900 block of South Lafayette Avenue at 5:53 p.m. but the vehicle fled.
While fleeing, the car - which police later described as being gray in color - struck a 55-year-old woman and 30-year-old man. An initial report from police indicated three people were hit bu the car, but an update only provided information on the two.
The woman was pronounced dead after she was taken to the University of Chicago trauma center. She was later identified as Julia Callaway of the first block of 80th Street in the city's Chatham neighborhood, according to an NBC-Chicago report.

The man was treated on scene by the Chicago Fire Department and released.
Police say the offenders are in custody, but charging information was not immediately available.
