Flowers Wins State House 31st District Primary
Long-time Illinois 31st District Rep. Mary Flowers won a landslide victory over challenger Willie Preston in the Democratic primary.

CHICAGO, IL -- Illinois State Representative incumbent Mary Flowers is expected to hold onto her seat in the House as she won the Democratic nomination for the position, beating out opponent Willie Preston in a landslide victory. As there's no current Republican candidate to challenge Flowers in the November election, it's expected that she'll be reelected.
Flowers pulled in 82.8 percent of the vote to Preston's 17.2 percent, according to the Sun Times.
Flowers has won kudos from the Chicago Tribune for being a voice of the abused and neglected children at the Department of Children and Family Services in Springfield. She told the Chicago Sun-Times endorsement boart her priorities in Springfield will be to create a state bank, Medicare for All and a financial transaction tax to help build the state’s infrastructure to create jobs.

Preston is a South Side activist whose attended rallies, been elected to the Local School Council and served on the board of directors for the Chicago Metropolitan YMCA. He is endorsed by the Chicago Sun-Times. He currently works for Southsiders Organized for Unity and Liberation as a community organizer.
