Police Shoot Suspect After He Stabs Officer In The Head: CPD

CHICAGO – Chicago police shot a man Saturday evening in the Roseland neighborhood after he held a woman at knife point and stabbed an officer, CPD Deputy Chief Daniel O’Connor said at a news conference.

Around 7:35 p.m., officers from the 5th Chicago Police District were called to a disturbance in the 9900 block of South Wentworth. Officers were met by a citizen who said a man entered his home and was holding a woman at knife point in the bedroom.

According to a preliminary statement, officers encountered a man with a knife in a bedroom and were able to pull the woman to safety. The man would not comply with officers’ repeated commands to drop the knife, police said.

One officer deployed his taser, which was ineffective, at the man. The man lunged at the officer, stabbing him in the shoulder and head with a knife, police said. Another officer fired his gun, striking the man. The man was transported to University of Chicago Medical Center, where O’Connor said he was in critical condition.

The officers were brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. One officer is in serious but stable condition, and the other officer is being held for observation. No other injuries were reported, and officers found a knife at the scene, O’Connor said. He did not know if the incident was domestic related.
